Pitigliano features houses that protrude from a large outcrop of tuff, very sheer. The cliff of Pitigliano is surrounded on three sides by many ravines, full of caves dug into the tuff in the valley flow the rivers Lente, Meleta and Prochio. A breathtaking sight!

Our trusty driver, Angelo, delivered us there safe and sound.

The town is also called Little Jerusalem for the historical presence of a Jewish community that has always been well integrated into the social context and that has its own synagogue. Some of their living quarters were in caves as seen here.
